Collecting Native Seeds

October 22, 2016 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Plant conservation starts with the collecting seeds from the right plants in the right place. In this special program, Plant Conservationist Minnette Marr will teach about the importance of a plant’s eco-type along with the proper seed collecting techniques for native Texas plants. Be prepared to venture into our wild lands with Minnette to collect seeds. Seeds collected during the program may be taken home or contributed to the Wildflower Center’s seed bank.

Over the past eight years, the Wildflower Center has partnered with the Millennium Seed Bank Partnership (a global conservation project), Seeds of Success (a national conservation project) and multiple state agencies, private landowners and stakeholders to collect and store millions of seeds of more than 600 Texas native species.

This program has very limited space available.

Minnette Marr is a plant conservationist and curates the herbarium and the seed bank at the Wildflower Center. She provides workshops and leads field trips for conservation groups interested in contributing ecotypes of native plant species to the seed bank.

This event is part of Texas Native Plant Week! Learn more here.
