About TXNPW
In June of 2009, former governor Rick Perry signed a bill into law that recognizes the third week in October as Texas Native Plant Week. The legislation seeks to recognize the role of native plants in conservation efforts and to create incentives for schools to teach children about the importance of native plants. The Native Plant Society of Texas teamed with State Rep. Donna Howard of Austin to present the bill, which was passed unanimously in both houses.
