Millennium Seed Bank Video

The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center is participating in the Millennium Seed Bank project to stockpile seeds by 2010 from 24,000 plant species around the world.

More than a dozen staff and volunteers of the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center ventured to West Texas last fall as part of this global seed-banking mission. They spent a weekend at The Nature Conservancy’s Davis Mountains Preserve to collect targeted species that include burr seed cucumber. View the 10-minute movie at the link above to learn about this seed collection trip and efforts to freeze away seeds in England and the United States in case plants that form the backbone of native landscapes lose a foothold.
