Wildflower of the Year

Each year, the Wildflower Center selects a Wildflower of the Year to highlight a native plant that stands out in Texas gardens. In a season expected to vary across the state, our 2026 selection — Carolina jessamine (Gelsemium sempervirens) — is already putting on a bright, fragrant show.

Start at the Center

The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center is the perfect starting point for your wildflower adventure, offering labeled displays of wildflowers and plenty of photo opportunities. The Center is conveniently located roughly 12 miles southwest of downtown Austin. It’s open every day 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and you can bring a picnic lunch or purchase a wildflower guide while you’re here.
