This class is part of this years virtual education series: "Expanding the Practice of Landscape Design" presented by New Directions in the American Landscape and cosponsored by Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center.

Join this years group of accomplished presenters including influential Landscape Designer Larry Weaner, as they explore the practice of landscape design in this spring's virtual education series. This multi-session virtual series will take place March - April 2023. Open to both professionals and non-professionals.

Session 1 (Virtual): Foundations of Ecology-based Design: Science into Practice*

Thursday, November 17, noon – 3:30 p.m. CST

Our opening presentation will examine the species traits, vegetative patterns, and ecological processes found in spontaneous plant communities. Each will be followed by an example of its direct incorporation into a landscape plan, planting protocol, or management procedure. The plant traits described will include habitat fidelity, growth pattern, spatial and temporal niche, and proliferation strategies. The patterns and processes explored will include disturbance, succession, competition, and relative ecological stability.

*Recommended prerequisite for all Intensive Course Attendees
