Native Plants magazine, the flagship publication of the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, has been recognized in an international forum designed to reward outstanding projects in the communications field. Yo!Media, the custom-publishing services firm which oversees the graphic design of Native Plants, has received an Award of Honor from Warwick Publishing’s annual Dalton Pen Communications Awards competition for its work on the magazine.

Competing against hundreds of international entries in the various communications fields, Native Plants magazine was recognized as “an exceptional display of original thinking and professionalism,” said Linda Warwick, president of Warwick Publishing. Judges described the design of Native Plants magazine as “very informative and very interesting” as well as “beautiful” and “definitely award material.”

Established in 1993 by Warwick Publishing, the Dalton Pen Communications Awards program is a prestigious international evaluation forum designed to recognize outstanding projects in the communications field. The competition honors communicators whose inspired projects and programs stand out from the other pieces of remarkable work submitted to the program. The Dalton Pen award is the third publishing award for Native Plants magazine since 2003.

The Dalton Pen Awards will be handed out at Warwick Publishing’s Gala Awards Ceremony in the Pan Pacific Hotel Ballroom in San Francisco on Friday, April 22, 2005.

In 2003, Native Plants magazine was honored with a Silver award in Folio: Magazine’s 2003 OZZIE DESIGN AWARDS Competition in the Best Redesign, Nonprofit category for its work on Native Plants magazine. In addition, Native Plants was named the Most Improved Internal Publication in the national Association for Women in Communications’ 2003 CLARION AWARDS competition. That year the magazine also was a finalist in the Western Publications Association’s 52nd annual MAGGIE AWARDS Competition in the Best Association Magazine category.
