Utah service-berry is a much-branched, 3-15 ft., deciduous shrub or small tree with grayish, oval leaves; racemes of white flowers; and small, dark-purple fruit. The bark is ashy-gray.

This widedspread shrub serves as browse for Mule Deer, Desert Bighorn Sheep, and domestic livestock; its berries are eaten by birds such as the Sage Grouse.
