The genus name, from the Greek stenos ("narrow") and anthos ("flower"), refers to the narrow, pointed sepals and petals and to the shape of the panicle.

Flower: "Inflorescence a panicled raceme, branches 1–several. Tepals 6, ± elliptic, 3.0–4.0 mm long, white, fading greenish post-anthesis. Tepal gland basal, very slightly raised, yellowish." (Reslit: 3187).
Fruit: "Capsules narrowly conic, 8–13 mm long, (mean 10.4), greenish to brownish." (Reslit: 3187).
