This species includes subspecies that are North American natives. However, it also includes subspecies that are not native to North America, e.g. Rubus idaeus ssp. idaeus, American Red Raspberry. Non-native taxa are not treated in this database.
Wild Red Raspberry (Rubus idaeus) has small flowers, prickles on stem, and compound leaves with 3 or 5 leaflets.
The Wild Red Raspberry is a member of the family Rosaceae which includes about 2000 species of trees, shrubs, and herbs worldwide; approximately 77 native and 9 naturalized tree species and many species of shrubs and herbs in North America; including service-berries (Amelanchier), hawthorns (Crataegus), apples (Malus), plums and cherries (Prunus), and mountain-ashes (Sorbus).
