Pitcherplant, Wrigley's Pitcherplant, Wrigley's Pitcher Plant

Sarraceniaceae (Pitcher-plant Family)

Synonym(s):

USDA Symbol: SAWR2

USDA Native Status: L48 (N)

Pitcher plants are carnivorous, fascinating more for their leaves than their flowers. The leaves on these stem-less plants form tubular pitchers, becoming pitfall traps that attract, catch and digest small invertebrate prey. The pitchers have no moving parts, relying on downward-pointing hairs on the inner surfaces, and hoods, to prevent prey from escaping.

Natural hybrid of Sarracenia leucophylla and S. psittacina.
