A hairy, leafy plant with several stout stems in a clump and pale, hairy, trumpet-shaped flowers in large coils at ends of upper branches.

The flowers of this species are long for the family. Its leaves and flowers were dried and mixed with wild tobacco (Nicotiana) for Hopi rain-bringing ceremonies.
