Goodyera repens is chlorophyllous but also hemi-mycoheterotrophic; that is, it makes it own food, but also utilizes a fungus to provide some of its carbon intake. The fungus involved is the Ceratobasidium cornigerum complex, which is saprotrophic, but is also a facultative pathogen of many plants.

Goodyera repens has flowers less than 1/4 of an inch (6 mm) long on only one side of the flowering stalk.
