A 1-5 ft. perennial with few to many, sturdy, upright stems, branching above. Older plants assume a bushy appearance. Flat-topped or domed clusters of whitish, rayless, composite flowers. Flowerheads are not showy but are conspicuous after frost when they become globes of achene plumes.
