Abstract
Researches the competitive ability of two plant species with respect to life-stage. Achillea millefolium adults are good competitors while seedlings are poor competitors. In contrast, Solidago missouriensis adults and seedlings have similar levels of competitive ability. Simulations of competition between these two plants predict that overall effects of competition on growth are more important than life-stage differences in competitive ability. Species with low overall competitive ability likely benefit from increased seedling competitive ability compared to adult competitive ability.Suggested Citation
