Response to density in a wild population of the perennial herb Salvia lyrata: variation among families
Author(s): R. G. Shaw
Publication Type: Article
Article Topic(s): Competition,Provenance
Research Setting(s): Field
Species Referenced: Salvia lyrata (Lyreleaf sage),
AbstractQuantifies genetic variation in response to conspecific density and environmental differences. Seed collected from one field were planted in the source field and neighboring fields at different densities. Both density and spatial location had major effects on fitness, indicating environment-dependent selection.
