Abstract

Examines the relationship between nutrient availability and Juncus effusus growth in the Netherlands. Former agricultural available for restoration have formed extensive monotypic stands of J. effusus. The growth of J. effusus on wet soils is determined by the phosphorus concentration. The article concludes that topsoil removal is likely necessary in noncalcareous sandy soils to create P limitation. Liming may enhance the quality of the soil after topsoil removal.
