Abstract
Examines the phylogenetic relationships among 46 species of Helianthus and two species of Phoebanthus using internal transcribed spacer regions of the nuclear ribosomal DNA. Based on patterns of genetic and geographic distribution, the ancestor to this genus may have been confined to the extreme southeastern US.Suggested Citation
