Habitat: Recumbent (from recent, rapidly flowing flood) in heavy shade of grassy area on damp, frequently flooded, stream bank.. Alkaline, alluvial soil.
Description: Erect perennial, 1.2 m tall. Stem angled, striate. Leaves opposite, deltoid, to about 4x7 cm, petioled (about 3.5 cm), toothed. Raceme of distant clusters of scarlet bilabiate tubes, soon falling. Calyces persistent.
