Fannon, Carolyn

Carolyn has a lifelong interest in drawing, painting, and photography. In the early 80’s, not long after she and her daughter moved to Houston, a neighbor gave her a very old Minolta SR-1 camera with a Vivatar 210 lens. That lens really helped her to “see” and she began exploring quiet off-the-road places to photograph wildflowers and insects.

In 1995 she bought a new camera and a year later joined the Native Prairies Association of Texas and Native Plant Society of Texas – Houston Chapter. Through these associations she made lifelong friends who encouraged her to give slide presentations on grasses and wildflowers.

The late Dr. Glenn Aumann gave Carolyn the privilege of photographing a tallgrass coastal prairie and, from the fall of 1995 through 2014, she made more than 315 visits to photograph this same prairie through all the seasons.

In 2003 a friend introduced Carolyn to the Big Thicket and they photographed amazing plant associations - carnivorous plants and wild orchids. In 2005 she purchased her first digital camera, a Canon 20D. In 2014, after many of years of photographing and studying God’s creation, she sold her camera equipment to devote more free time in getting to know the Creator through the study of His Word.
