Wallace, George

George Wallace grew up and has lived all of his life in north-central Tennessee. He and his wife of 45 years (2019), Judy, are now retired and live on their farm in the little community of Tuckers Crossroads, near Lebanon, Tennessee, a botanically-rich area featuring ecologically-sensitive cedar glades.

One day in 2002 George notice a very small, insignificant wildflower growing on his farm – its tiny white flower was one he hadn’t noticed before and it piqued his interest. So he grabbed his camera, took a picture of the plant and began trying to find its name. Searching for the identity of that little flower set him on a course of discovery, learning and joy that continues to this day. The mystery wildflower turned out to be Buttonweed, Diodia virginiana, the first of many native plants George has found and photographed on his farm and elsewhere.

Now a member of the Tennessee Native Plant Society, George is well-established in the community of native plant enthusiasts. In addition to the NPONA Image Gallery, his work can be seen on his blog page, ”What’s Blooming Now”.

George and Judy enjoy camping at Tennessee’s many, beautiful state parks. One of them, Old Stone Fort State Park, features many of his wildflower photographs taken there. He also leads hikes and teaches wildflower photography classes.

The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center is committed to developing the premier resource for native plant images in North America through continued growth of the Plant Image Gallery. You can help us achieve our mission ...to increase the sustainable use and conservation of native wildflowers, plants, and landscapes... by becoming a contributor.
