It was discovered in Georgia by Wilbur Duncan in 1943 on Mount Enotah, which represents the southern most known location of the species. Since that time, botanist have tried to relocate the species on Mount Enotah without success. Today I was checking on the status of another very rare plant and I discovered two small populations in a rhododendron thicket. This is also a new county record."
