The species can also be found in isolated protected habitats outside the main range. My friend Max Medley found a small population in a protected site in the Cumberland Plateau Province of northwest Georgia. This is currently the only known site of the species in the State. It is possible this is a relict Pleistocene population from a time when the Cumberland Plateau was covered with spruce-fir forest. "
