Location Notes: Big Frog Mountain, Big Frog Wilderness, Cherokee National Forest. Mountain Woodfern is not uncommon in the high southern Appalachian Mountains. Normally it grows above 5,000 feet. At Big Frog Mountain (4,224 feet) it lives in a high cove. This is probably the southern most occurrence of the species.
