Q. Who is Mr. Smarty Plants?

A: There are those who suspect Wildflower Center volunteers are the culpable and capable culprits. Yet, others think staff members play some, albeit small, role. You can torture us with your plant questions, but we will never reveal the Green Guru's secret identity.

Please forgive us, but Mr. Smarty Plants has been overwhelmed by a flood of mail and must take a break for awhile to catch up. We hope to be accepting new questions again soon. Thank you!

Title: Cupressaceae dying in Suffolk Co.NY
Answered by: Barbara Medford

QUESTION:

I have noticed that all of my Cupressaceae (& others I see in my area) are dying. They turn yellow, then rust & brown til they are everbrowns. what is going on?

ANSWER:

We answered an almost identical question from Sufflock Co., NY last year, and will suggest you read it and see if you get some help. In a nutshell, we believed the problem to be mites, which were a big problem virtually all over the country last year and are apparently coming back.
