Native Plants
Q. Who is Mr. Smarty Plants?
A: There are those who suspect Wildflower Center volunteers are the culpable and capable culprits. Yet, others think staff members play some, albeit small, role. You can torture us with your plant questions, but we will never reveal the Green Guru's secret identity.
Did you know you can access the Native Plant Information Network with your web-enabled smartphone?
Ask Mr. Smarty Plants is a free service provided by the staff and volunteers at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center.

Title: Is India Hawthorne a deer-resistant plant?
Answered by: Nan Hampton
QUESTION:
Is India Hawthorne a deer resistant plant in Beaufort County South Carolina?ANSWER:
Our focus and expertise at the Wildflower Center are with plants native to North America. Raphiolepis indica (India Hawthorn) is an introduced plant native to China so we don't really have any information about it. Looking on the internet, however, there are some who say it is NOT deer resistant and some sites that say that it is. You can read more about its deer resistance, or lack thereof, by searching on its common name or on its scientific name, "Raphiolepis indica". and "deer resistant"
