Q. Who is Mr. Smarty Plants?

A: There are those who suspect Wildflower Center volunteers are the culpable and capable culprits. Yet, others think staff members play some, albeit small, role. You can torture us with your plant questions, but we will never reveal the Green Guru's secret identity.

Please forgive us, but Mr. Smarty Plants has been overwhelmed by a flood of mail and must take a break for awhile to catch up. We hope to be accepting new questions again soon. Thank you!

Title: Early blooming wildflowers for PA
Answered by: Anne Bossart

QUESTION:

What is the earliest wildflower to bloom other than the mountain laurel in Upper Northeastern PA? (near Honesdale, PA)

ANSWER:

Well you are in luck ... it just so happens that we answered an identical question (also from someone from Slippery Rock University) just a few weeks ago.

You will find that answer here and you will discover that the mountain laurel is not anywhere near the beginning of the list of plants in blooming order.  Kalmia latifolia (Mountain laurel) doesn't bloom until June.

If you need more help, don't hesitate to ask!
