Q. Who is Mr. Smarty Plants?

A: There are those who suspect Wildflower Center volunteers are the culpable and capable culprits. Yet, others think staff members play some, albeit small, role. You can torture us with your plant questions, but we will never reveal the Green Guru's secret identity.

Title: What is a cyme-bearing plant for Waco, TX?
Answered by: Joe Marcus

QUESTION:

I need a wildflower or drought tolerant perennial example of the inflorescence type 'cyme' to plant in a school garden in Waco, TX.

ANSWER:

"Cyme" is a catch-all term for several similar inflorescence types.  An example of a native plant from your area which bears a scorpioid cyme or cincinnus is Phacelia corymbosa (serpentine phacelia) or Blue Curls.  Once established, it should perform well in your garden.
