Q. Who is Mr. Smarty Plants?

A: There are those who suspect Wildflower Center volunteers are the culpable and capable culprits. Yet, others think staff members play some, albeit small, role. You can torture us with your plant questions, but we will never reveal the Green Guru's secret identity.

Title: Smarty Plants on Deer-Resistant Plants
Answered by: Stephen Brueggerhoff

QUESTION:

Do you have a list of Texas plants that are deer resistant?

ANSWER:

You can review individual plant information from our Native Plant Database, providing botanical and horticultural native plant information, including deer resistant plants. The Native Plant Society of Texas also offers a check-list of native plants that are deer resistant, found on their website called CAMOUFLAGE GARDENING. Keep in mind that this list is a "works in progress", and offers info on plants that deer will normally not browse; in drought, or periods of ecological stress, the deer will eat just about most plants.
