Native Plants

Q. Who is Mr. Smarty Plants?
A: There are those who suspect Wildflower Center volunteers are the culpable and capable culprits. Yet, others think staff members play some, albeit small, role. You can torture us with your plant questions, but we will never reveal the Green Guru's secret identity.
Did you know you can access the Native Plant Information Network with your web-enabled smartphone?

Title: Trimming of Aster ericoides in Philadelphia
Answered by: Barbara Medford
QUESTION:
Should I cut back my Aster ericoides, ‘schneegitter’ in the spring?ANSWER:
While this plant does not appear in our Native Plant Database, it appears that it is, indeed, native to North America and to Pennsylvania. Trim off the previous year’s stems back to the green sprouts at the crown in mid-spring.
