Q. Who is Mr. Smarty Plants?

A: There are those who suspect Wildflower Center volunteers are the culpable and capable culprits. Yet, others think staff members play some, albeit small, role. You can torture us with your plant questions, but we will never reveal the Green Guru's secret identity.

Please forgive us, but Mr. Smarty Plants has been overwhelmed by a flood of mail and must take a break for awhile to catch up. We hope to be accepting new questions again soon. Thank you!

Title: Sowing an old highway right of way with native wildflowers
Answered by: Nan Hampton

QUESTION:

We have an old highway right-of-way which we would like to seed with wildflowers. Can you help us?

ANSWER:

There are several titles in our How to Articles that should be helpful to you, e.g., "Wildflower Meadow Gardening", "Large Scale Wildflower Planting" and "Roadside Planting". If you do not own the right-of-way, you should contact the entity that does control (e.g., Oklahoma Department of Transportation or Rogers County Government) before you proceed.
