A 6-12 in. perennial with basal leaves, deeply three-lobed. A terminal flower, subtended by a single pair of leaves, has numerous white, petal-like sepals surrounding many yellow stamens.

Anemone is derived from Greek word anemos meaning wind; the flowers would supposedly open with spring breezes.
