John Barr Trail

The John Barr Trail stands alone as a loop or connects to the longer Simmons Research Trail. Cross the side driveway (where roadrunners are commonly seen!) and the enter one of our distinct “outdoor classrooms.” The trail is a great place to observe and learn about native plants and landscapes while you walk in nature.

What You’ll See on This Trail

  • Wildflower meadows and shrubs and trees, such as persimmon, elbow-bush, agarita and cedar elm
  • In spring, look for blooming prickly pear, bluebonnets, damanita, coreopsis, bitterweed and more
