Description: Keefer Ecological Services (KES) is a Kootenay based firm that specialises in projects concerned with humanities connections to the land. KES has entered its third year of business and is currently working on a wide variety of projects that are all currently related to botany. Current projects include the writing of management guidelines for a number of native shrubs on two different BC Forest Science Program projects, sedge research trials, revegetation of hydroelectric reservoirs, and a profile of non-timber forest products in the Cascade Forest District. TMichael is well known as one the Kootenay’s foremost experts on native plants, their ethnobotany and their importance in contemporary society. Michael is an associate researcher with the Centre for Non-Timber Resources at Royal Roads University. In Michael’s former employment with the Ktunaxa Nation as Ethnobotanist, Manager of Research and Planning, he opened the Aqam Native Plant Nursery, the regions only such business assisted with archaeological research and conducted ethnobotanical research.
