Karen Beaty

Karen Beaty

Horticulturist

Karen started working as a horticulturist at the Wildflower Center in February 2016. You can find her in the Luci and Ian Family Garden transplanting, pruning, weeding, mulching and performing other garden work.

She earned a bachelor’s in biology from Davidson College and then worked as a biological technician at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center. She then earned a master’s in land resources from the University of Wisconsin- Madison and moved to Austin shortly afterwards.

A lifelong gardener and nature nerd, in recent years she has managed her own small homestead and completed the Permaculture Design Certificate Course. She enjoys traveling with her family, hiking, reading and building with scavenged materials.
