Frances Cushing

Frances Cushing

Assistant to the Volunteer Manager

Frances holds a bachelor of arts from McGill University and a master’s in library and information science from Indiana University.

She was a reference librarian at The University of Texas at Austin before moving to Australia in 1971, where she joined the federal Parliament Library. During her time there, she was the director of the reference service with a staff of 35 employees working for members of Parliament and their staff.

After returning to Austin in 1992, Cushing worked again as a librarian at The University of Texas at Austin as well as volunteering at the Wildflower Center. She served as part-time receptionist in a job-share position at the Center from 1993 until April 2017, when she became part-time assistant to the volunteer manager.

Her current duties include organizing tours, helping to orient new volunteers, and working with the online database that allows volunteers to log their hours, sign up for volunteer opportunities, register for educational programs and more. Having worked with volunteers from the start of her employment at the Wildflower Center, it is an ideal position for Cushing.
