Strongly mottled, 6-8 in., oblong leaves arise from a corm and surround the 6-16 in. flowering stem which bears one to several nodding, bell-shaped flowers. Flowers are rose-pink without, lighter within and have yellow bands near the inner base. Mahogany Fawn-lily is a perennial.

Soil Description: Rich, moist, well-drained soils.
Conditions Comments: Considered well worth having in cultivation for the mottled leaves alone. Bog fawn lily will reproduce rapidly from seed and ultimately produce large drifts. Though called "bog" lily, this species is rarely found in truly boggy areas.

Propagation

Description: Sow seeds in flats or pots in the fall. Plunge container in the soil of a shady area. Corms can be transplanted the second season but it will be four to five seasons until the bulbs are large enough to support flowering.
Seed Treatment: 3 months stratification is necessary.
