Yellow-yarrow or golden-yarrow is a stiff, mounded, shrub-like plant, usually 8-20 in. high, with many erect, herbaceous branches and very finely divided, gray-green leaves. Small, deep-yellow flowers gather together in yarrow-like clusters.

This is a drought-tolerant wildflower.

Size Notes: Up to about 3 feet tall, often much shorter.
Fruit: Fruit is a cypsela (pl. cypselae). Though technically incorrect, the fruit is often referred to as an achene.

Soil Description: Rocky or sandy soils.
Conditions Comments: Drought tolerant.

Propagation

Description: The woody stem base and root crown make division difficult. The plant is easily propagated by seeds, however. Plant in fall.
Seed Treatment: Heating the seeds (bake at 250 degrees for 5 min.) before planting may enhance germination.
