A slender perennial to 2 1/2 ft. high with opposite, lance-shaped leaves. Large, bright-pink, 8-12 petaled flowers, about 3 in. broad, terminate numerous slender branches.
Sabatia dodecandra var. dodecandra, occuring in brackish places, ranges from Florida to Connecticut. Sabatia dodecandra var. foliosa occurs from Texas to South Carolina, near fresh water.
