Platanthera obtusata is chlorophyllous but also hemi-mycoheterotrophic; that is, it makes it own food, but also utilizes a fungus to provide some of its carbon intake. Fungi involved are Sistotrema sp., a saprotroph, and the Ceratobasidium cornigerum complex, which is saprotrophic, but is also a facultative pathogen of many plants.
