Hydrocotyle americana

Hydrocotyle americana L.

American Marshpennywort, Water-pennywort

Apiaceae (Carrot Family)

USDA Native Status: L48 (N), CAN (N)

A creeping or weakly erect marsh plant with small clusters of tiny, greenish-white flowers rising from leaf axils.

There are about eight pennywort species in the East. Their distinctive, rounded, "penny-like" leaves, on stems that creep or float, account for the common name.
