Native Plant Focus: The Garden is in the Cross Timbers, an ancient forest and prairie that extends from Kansas into Texas. The Cross Timbers is the largest unlogged forest in the United States, and there is no other similar geological system in the world. Because of the importance of the forest and prairie, 100 acres is being preserved and maintained. Research is underway.

Description: The Oklahoma Centennial Botanical Garden/Research and Education Center is being developed seven miles northwest of downtown Tulsa. One hundred sixty acres were donated. Sixty acres will be gardens and buildings and 100 acres of Cross Timbers ancient forest and prairie will be preserved. The $40 million Garden will have 15 major theme gardens, 60 speciality gardens, 3,000-seat amphitheater, interfaith chapel, conservatory, orangery, 3-story observation tower, and 7-acre lake. The Centennial Phase - temporary visitor center, lake and road - has been completed, and walking trails are open.
