Abstract
Examines effects of plant species interactions on community composition and diversity in a New England salt marsh. Competition plays a role in the high intertidal habitat, physical factors are more important in the lower middle intertidal, and facilitation influenced species numbers in the upper middle intertidal. Higher diversity in the upper middle intertidal is attributed to: the lack of a competitive dominant species, the presence of a facilitator species (Juncus gerardi), and physical conditions being less harsh than the lower middle intertidal.Suggested Citation
