Abstract
Studies the effects of latex and cardiac glycosides found in Asclepias humistrata on the growth of first-instar larvae of the monarch butterfly. Partially severing plant petioles prior to herbivory mimics the behavior of mature monarch butterfly. In this study, partially severing petioles of A. humistrata increased larval growth and survival of first-instar larvae of the monarch butterfly.Suggested Citation
