Habitat: Half day sun; damp, deep alkaline soil. Single plant, but common in community. Adventitious in disturbed soil.
Description: Erect, single stalk annual from taproot; 20+ cm tall. Branching from axils of opposite leaves. Leaves bilaterally symmetric, petioled, stipitate, narrowly ovate to lanceolate, dentate, acute apically, acute to cuneate basally. Involucres terminal. Flowers: staminate-many; pistillate w/exserted, stout gynophore, ovary broader than long. Capsules 3 lobed; seed ovoid.
