Native Plants
Native Seed Imaging Project
Bruce Leander, Wildflower Center volunteer photographer, put his considerable skills to the test this winter when he set out to chronicle hundreds of seeds of Texas species collected by the Wildflower Center for storage in the Millennium Seed Bank Project - a global plant conservation effort developed by England's Royal Botanic Garden, Kew. The process required the use of a high quality macro lens with extension tubes and three flash units to capture the beautiful intricacy of seeds of plants the Center hopes to protect from extinction. Staff member, Minette Marr, and a small army of volunteers painstakingly prepared the seeds and removed dust and debris to make the seeds camera-ready.
We would like to thank (in alphabetical order) Sam Elkin, Charlene Farris, Maggie Glazener, Pippa Gordon, Patty Koeninger, Betty Korts, Karen Langridge, Betty Mading, George Mading, Rae Minyard, Robert Neese, Susan Norwood, Sam Strickland, Guy Thompson and Janice Zimmerman who provided invaluable assistance during the photoshoots and on other parts of the project.
