Sandy Smith’s interest in photography began with the purchase of a 35 mm camera in the 1970’s. Her brother-in-law inspired her with his photos and taught her photography basics. Working in the outreach ministry of the First United Methodist Church in downtown Ft. Worth for more than 35 years, Sandy’s desire was to capture the images and faces of the people she came in contact with in her work: the homeless looking for a pair of shoes or a lunch to eat, a child trying on a new dress--her first, a hungry baby getting formula to drink, boys and girls in the Explorer Post standing atop a 13,000 ft. mountain after hiking all day (most had never been out of the city limits before). Her photos captured the essence of people in need and the life-changing events they experienced.

Upon retirement, Sandy wanted to photograph the beauty around them on her and her husband’s twenty wooded acres of oaks and cedars trees. There, she found a wealth of photographic subjects in the amazing sunsets and sunrises, birds, deer, turkey and wildflowers. As she describes it, “God’s handiwork is everywhere I look, and it brings me great joy to be a small part of it through the lens of my camera.”
