Machi, Mary Ann
Born January 9, 1952Mary Ann was born and raised in the seaside community of Shelter Cove, Humboldt County, California. Some of her first memories were of her mother’s vegetable and flower gardens that instilled a lifelong love of plants. She always has some form of a garden, whether it be flowers, vegetables, or house plants (or all three).
In the spring of 2020, she became interested in wildflowers after a friend introduced her to the natives of Humboldt County. She began posting observations to Calflora.org along with performing volunteer work for that organization. She writes articles for the North America Lily Society about local native lilies for their quarterly newsletter and is contributing photographs to the Native Plants of North America Image Gallery.
Mary Ann is an amateur botanist who searches Humboldt, Del Norte, and Trinity Counties for wildflowers, especially rare ones, and has also ventured into Southern Oregon. She lives in Eureka, CA.
The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center is committed to developing the premier resource for native plant images in North America through continued growth of the Plant Image Gallery. You can help us achieve our mission ...to increase the sustainable use and conservation of native wildflowers, plants, and landscapes... by becoming a contributor.
