Shot: A plant in situ. Photographer's note: "As far as I know, I was the first person to discover jeweled maiden fern growing in the U.S. I found a colony of two plants growing in Strawberry Fields Hammock, Miami-Dade County, Florida, on November 25, 1989. Since then the plant has been found in other natural environments in the area. I located this plant growing on a the edge of a solution hole in Castellow Hammock Preserve. Keith Bradley confirmed the identification. When I took him to see the plant, we found more plants nearby. The species is reportedly pantropical having originated from tropical Asia. It is widely distributed in the Caribbean region and South America. I suspected the Strawberry Field Hammock site was a naturally occurring population. The species is still a viable member of the flora."
