Original Format: Digital Orientation: Portrait Shot: Close-up of pistillate flowers. Photographer's note: "Long-stalked holly is very rare in Georgia. It is currently known from three small populations in the same high altitude cove. Currently, no male (staminate) flower shrubs have been located within the known populations although sporadic fruits are produced. There may be some possible self-pollination within the female population. Close inspection of the pistillate flowers reveals four sterile stamens. They are visible in these images. Maybe there is some fertility. One authority suggested possible pollination by nearby plants of Ilex montana. We saw several male shrubs on the mountain. All were still in bud. No one has checked the viability of the Ilex collina fruit. " Date Taken: 2013-06-01 NPIN Image Id: 40243
