Photographer's note: "My general feeling is the questionable plants are the rare Asplenium ×gravesii, however, it is supposed to be an incidental hybrid not capable of reproduction. My identification is based on a few intermediate characteristics. Asplenium pinnatifidum has a green rachis and mostly green stipe except for the very bottom which is brown. It is an ancestral hybrid between Asplenium rhizophyllum and Asplenium montanum. Asplenium bradleyi has a mostly brown rachis (fading to green near the terminus) and brown stipe. It is an ancestral hybrid between Asplenium platyneuron and Asplenium montanum. These possible Asplenium ×gravesii have intermediate stipe and rachis. Also, the pinna are intermediate between the more dissected pinna of A. bradleyi and the more entire pinna of A. pinnatifidum. The general frond shape is more elongated than A. bradleyi and more like A. pinnatifidum. There were upwards of a dozen plants of the possible hybrid. These three fronds are off three different plants. I've never seen Asplenium ×gravesii before. I would feel better if it were a typical single sterile hybrid.
